those of the comments from speaker boehner. the house has gaveled out. we expect them back in about two hours. let's go to newbury port. caller: thank you for c-span. i do not understand where this $250,000 number comes from. i am 70 and have never been asked to make a sacrifice by any congress. it just seems to me that if the average income in most states -- to ask people making $125,000 or more, to ask them to contribute more, that seems to be a no- brainer. i do not see why people in this country are not ready to make a compromise. let's face it, we will either all have to pay slightly more taxes and accept the fact that our benefits are going to have to be lower than they really are -- i am in that bracket of $125,000 to $250,000. i am very comfortable, i could contribute more to the deficit, i just want to make sure that that money goes to the deficit in reality. it seems to me that that number comes up and is a political situation and what congress is really saying is that i am going to pander to the 98% because if i go to 125%, i will upset more o

appreciate the leadership of republican and democratic leaders in the senate, and we thank speaker boehner for bringing this legislation to the floor. public we can duplicate a strong bipartisan vote that was achieved in the united states senate. why is that important? because the american people told us in the election that they wanted us to work together. they have their differences, too. they understand this agreement. they also understand compromise. that is what this legislation represents. the previous speaker said he was voting for the bill for what was not in it. that is an interesting approach. we can judge be legislation we vote on for what is in it, or vote against it for what is not in it. at some point you strike a balance. you balance the equities -- where you come out in terms of making a choice? i hope the choice the american people will make tonight will reflect the well and keep the call of the american people to work together and follow the lead of the senate with a strong bipartisan support. what do they want us to do? what are the priorities? they want us to create job
